A member of the K-W United 2014 team has found his calling back home, in England.

Paris Bateman, who played as a midfielder for K-W United back in 2014, was recently hired to be a coach for the Everton Football Club.

Originally from Crewe, England, Bateman coached at Crewe Alexandra, where he started his professional player and coaching, and gained a ton of experience. From then on, he was offered an interview opportunity for a coaching position at Everton.

But the process was rather strange, for Bateman, as he didn't follow the usual route that most applicants take to apply for the position. Part of that application was to deliver a coaching session with an academy age group, which went well.

"I was privileged enough to be asked to interview by a senior member of staff without going through the application process, which I know was quite rigorous," Bateman said. "I didn't know anybody at the club, but apparently they knew of me and had done some investigating and asked me to interview."

A week later, Bateman received a phone call asking for him to drive back to the Everton training ground, where he was offered a full time position. It was then that Bateman had to make a difficult decision - he was already the Head of Foundation at Crewe Alexandra, where he was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to coach where numerous high class players and coaches have started their journeys.

"It took a week or so for me to gather the relevant information and form the decision which I am delighted with - to join Everton Football Club," Bateman said.

Returning home to continue his coaching development, Bateman felt that he would get further in the game by earning his coaching badges as opposed to playing - a reality that was difficult for Bateman to face but what he believed was the correct decision. Since then, he has gained valuable coaching experience with various age groups and most recently has enrolled in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) A Licence, and passed his UEFA B Licence.

Coming to K-W during a difficult moment in his life, after the passing of his father, from his first moment meeting various members of the K-W United Football Club organization, Bateman said that he instantly felt that he had a second family. He is thankful of the hospitality that the K-W United organization offered him, and during his time with the club has made best friends for life in the form of Jack Warburton, Shane Keely, Jack Sherratt, Stefan Vukovic, and numerous others.

"The club will always hold a place in my heart and i will continue to visit and support the players who represent KW in the future," Bateman said. "I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to play for this truly unique team."
